Andrea Ruiz

Founder & Educator

When Andrea observed the lack of Spanish immersion options in Early Childhood Education in New Orleans, the idea of La Escuelita was born. She is originally from Barcelona, Spain, and came to New Orleans in 2010 to work as Foreign Associate Teacher.

Andrea has ten years of experience working with elementary school children. After four years of teaching 1st Grade Spanish Immersion in New Orleans, in 2016 her attention shifted to Early Childhood Education. She was captivated by the innate abilities of young children to learn and develop their motor and linguistic skills.

Andrea holds a BA in Elementary Education with a specialization in Special Education from the University of Oviedo, in Spain. Her continuous education in Early Childhood includes training in Non-Directive Education with the Proyecto Integral León Dormido in Ecuador and Free Motor Development with the Pikler-Lóczy Institute from Budapest.

When she isn’t at La Escuelita, you can find her biking with her family or enjoying the many offerings of the New Orleans Public Library.
